Manchester City recently achieved an impressive draw against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
Stunning goals from Vinicius Jr. and Kevin De Bruyne lit up the famous stadium and showcased the quality in the two squads. City were dumped out of the competition by Madrid last year, though it’s highly likely that Guardiola’s men will have the final say at the Etihad Stadium next week.

Treble On The Cards
The Sky Blues are also top of the Premier League table and have an FA Cup final booked with their rivals Manchester United later this month. If all goes well, then City could become just the second club to win the classic treble.
Manchester City have never won the Champions League, but 2023 could be the year the iconic trophy finally returns to its rightful home in England. Liverpool were unlucky not to win it last year, but the stars have aligned for City this time around and I fully back them to go all the way.
I had massive problems with the refereeing during the City/Madrid showdown as numerous Madrid fouls went unpunished and blatant attempts at time-wasting were ignored. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching Champions League football, it’s that the English clubs really are treated as the underdogs.
City To Win 2nd Leg
This is not to discredit the fantastic, star-studded Madrid side, who have won twice as many European cups as everybody else and whose pedigree in Europe will forever be unmatched by City despite how much money the latter spend.
Los Blancos know how to frustrate their opponents and their cerebral powers were on full-display on Tuesday evening. I’m backing City to win in the second-leg, but I know for a fact that it won’t be easy.
What makes life even sweeter is that the Champions League trophy will return to England just weeks after the King’s Coronation. No matter how expensive bills get or how unpleasant the so-called cost-of-living crisis gets, it’s comforting to know that our cultural and sporting scenes are thriving and that the whole world is looking at us with intense envy.
The arrival of a new King will surely motivate City to go all the way and finally deliver the elusive trophy to the Etihad Stadium. The Sky Blues have taken the long route to get here, but it’s better late than never.
