Rangers are set for an epic Europa League showdown with Eintracht Frankfurt. The two teams are unlikely candidates for the final considering this campaign has featured big-hitters like Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Porto, and they’ll meet at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville on the 18th of May. Ironically, the game comes almost 19 years after Celtic reached the same final, played in the same city, when they lost to Jose Mourinho’s Porto.
I, quite frankly, am in awe of Rangers. Their magical run to the Europa League final isn’t just a great advert for Scottish football, but it’s a wonderful statement for the UK as a whole. Scotland have been viewed as footballing underdogs for far too long considering the world-class players they have produced over the years and their current team looks as good a squad they’ve had in years.

Patriotic Rangers Fans In Seville
Personally, I’m relishing the thought of seeing thousands of patriotic Rangers fans descend on Seville with their Union Jacks and pro-monarchy anthems on hand. Their opponents, Eintracht Frankfurt, will have no idea what’s coming to them as The Gers unleash their devine patriotism and superb footballing ability.
Needless to say, I’ll be supporting Rangers as much as I can. How incredible it would be to see British teams mop up the Europa League and Champions League respectively and continue their recent stranglehold on European club competitions.
Jubilee An Inspiration
It’s almost as if fate was at hand for 2022 just happens to be the year that our dear Queen celebrates her 70th year on the throne, a coincidence that has not gone unnoticed by yours truly. I’m not one for superstition, but I feel as though The Queen has personally guided Rangers to this final and acted as their shining light.
Should Rangers win, then I’m sure we’ll be treated to throngs of their fans parading up and down the sunny streets of Seville. The sounds of their victory songs and sights of their royal blue replica kits will be a delight to witness and I’m half tempted to jump on a flight and visit. I may very well do that, seeing as I can very much afford it.
Rangers are winners in my eyes regardless of the result. They have represented British and Scottish football superbly and, unlike Celtic, have actually managed to thrive in a European competition. Their talented team, incredible stadium, and cavalry of charming fans are all hallmarks of this historic club and to see them lift a European trophy would be a salivating sight.
Rangers Faithful To Play A Role
I’m sure Frankfurt will provide tough resistance, but I feel as though the sheer noise generated by the Rangers faithful will create enough power for the Glasgow club to power through. It’s a shame they aren’t facing West Ham - as that would’ve made for the most patriotic final of modern times. These two great British teams would, and should, have played a match for the ages and one so fitting for our Queen.
Alas, it was not to be, and Frankfurt are very much in the final on merit. I can only imagine the jealousy experienced by a certain Mr. Gerrard right now is palpable after he deserted the Scottish giants for Aston Villa.
I’ve never been so proud of Rangers for reaching the Europa League Final. Much like Celtic did in 2003, they have captured the hearts of the public with their majestic run to the climax and I’m very much hoping they bring the trophy back to the UK. The silver Europa League trophy won’t just look good at Ibrox, but it will also make for a perfect Jubilee present for Her Majesty.
