Amazon founder and multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos has recently announced his plans of giving away most of his £107 billion fortune to charity.
Dedicated to fighting climate change and reducing financial inequality, the 58-year-old realises the responsibility that comes with his huge wealth.
Work-shy students may not like him, but Bezos is the greatest businessman of modern times. He started Amazon in his parents’ garage as a youngster and steadily transformed it into one of the biggest companies in the world. If that’s not inspiring, then I don’t know what is.

Bezos recently gave $100 million to country music legend Dolly Parton to use for charitable causes. When asked by CNN if he planned on giving the majority of his wealth away, Bezos responded: ‘’Yeah, I do.’’ Before adding, ‘’The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way."’’
It seems the Amazon founder and I have a lot more in common than I thought. Much like myself, Bezos is a seasoned, high-functioning businessman with only one thing in mind: success. We both have sizable fortunes, as well as a disdain for the avocado-eating, cappuccino-drinking, easily-offended youth of today.
Amazon has come under scrutiny for its allegedly-poor working conditions, however, something tells me that its mostly-Millennial staff can’t handle Bezos’s intensity.
Whilst I plan on giving most of my fortune away to the family of Boris Johnson, Bezos’s pledge of giving his money away to charity is just as altruistic.
Serial Philanthropist
Bezos is no stranger to acts of heroism, having previously pledged $10 billion to his own environmental fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, after questions were raised by his opulent trips to space.
Dolly Parton, the latest beneficiary of Bezos’s philanthropy, was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and is well-known for her charitable efforts.
However, Jeff Bezos does a lot more for humanity than the mere act of money-throwing. In fact, we can consider Amazon itself to be a miracle as it makes shopping easier, cheaper, and more convenient than it has ever been.
Is there any end to this man’s greatness?
Jeff Bezos stepped down as Amazon’s chief executive in 2021, but he remains chairman of the board. A true rags-to-riches story, his generosity is enough to bring tears to my eye. Long may he, and Amazon, rule over us.
