2022 has produced some iconic showbiz moments and its highlight reel will most likely be shared for years to come.
Let’s take a look at just a handful of the biggest showbiz events of the year, from the Depp vs Heard trial to the infamous Oscars slap.

Joe Rogan’s PR Nightmare
Comedian Joe Rogan’s self-titled podcast is perhaps the biggest of its kind in the world and among the most powerful media platforms anywhere.
Featuring guests like Elon Musk, Bernie Sanders, and Jordan Peterson, the podcast aims to shed light on stories and opinions from all over the political spectrum.
It was, however, Rogan’s controversial stance and discussion surrounding COVID-19 which almost caused his podcast empire to crumble in front of him. Music legend Niel Young requested for his catalog to be removed from Spotify, where Rogan’s podcast is hosted, if the episodes weren’t pulled.
Joni Mitchell soon followed suit, and Joe Rogan took to Instagram to make an apology, claiming that he aims to ‘do better’ in the future.
Depp vs Heard Trial
The highly-publicized trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was intense and fiery, with millions of social media users taking to their accounts to share their opinions in it.
Though legal matters are often complicated and I won’t get into the nitty-gritty of the trial here, I can’t deny that this arduous courtroom feud managed to grip the whole world.
The UK saw a lengthy celeb trial, too, as the so-called ‘Wagatha Christie’ case between Rebekah Vardy and C oleen Rooney hit headlines in the summer.
Kurt Zouma vs His Cat
West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma attracted headlines for all the wrong reasons as a dreadful video of him attacking a pet cat surfaced on social media.
The footballer was placed under internal review at this club, with manager David Moyes condemning the Frenchman. Fans of both rival clubs and West Ham United jeered Zouma from the stands during games, rightfully so in my opinion.
Zouma was eventually banned from having cats for five years, whereas West Ham United fined him £250,000.
The Slap
The mother of all showbiz stories this year, however, took place on 27 March 2022 at the 94th Academy Awards.
Host Chris Rock, whilst talking about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, was on the receiving end of a slap by Will Smith on live television.
Rock, who was in disbelief, calmly stated ‘’Will Smith just slapped the s*** out of me!’’ before saying the slap was ‘’the greatest moment in the history of television’.
You don’t need me to tell you about the media sensation The Slap caused, and it remains the biggest showbiz moment of the year, as well as the most infamous Oscars incident ever.
God only knows what crazy showbiz stories await us in 2023, but one thing’s for certain - next year has a tough act to follow.
